Here's one email from 2002. Don't ask me why I saved it. I suppose because I
found it interesting.

Maybe it's time to add to the stats. And after the season, we need to get on
and help the marketing department. Big Ten football regardless of the team
should fill stadiums.

Chris
Go CATS!

It's been a good year. Go for TWO more wins. Keep the Sweet Sioux!

It seems Mr. Rick Taylor left out one statistic from his 'vote of
confidence' e-mail on RW.

Year Coach Avg attendance
92 Barnett 32,989
93 30,965
94 34,382
95 38,230
96 42,310
97 41,868
98 40,907
99 Walker 30,845
00 33,498
01 33,763
02 28,611 through 5 games

It's anybody's guess how many fans will show up for the Illinois game - two
3-win teams, lousy weather, a few days before thanksgiving.

Barnett 37,379 average
Walker 31,679 average (DOWN 15%)

I will bet that Mr. Rick Taylor is very acquainted with this statistic,
though. We will probably finish with our worst attendance since the Francis
Peay era. And at $35 a ticket, we're down about $200,000 per game...down
$1.2 million per season...a deficit of $4.8 million rung up during the RW
era. That can't be making Mr. Taylor very happy. It can't be making
big-money guys like Pat Ryan very happy either. And on the heels of a 3-win
season, will we see more erosion in the season-ticket base ?
