Nevermind the fact that NU has beaten Illinois the past 4 consecutive years
with those guys on the coaching staff and that this year the 'Cats have
managed 6 victories.  Obviously many are calling for Colby and Brown's heads
, and rightfully so after this season for years of defensive futility, but
the defense has been at least moderately successful this year - for
instance, the defense only allowed 3 TDs to Indiana, a team that scored 30+
on 7 occasions this year.  And I would hardly call McGee incompetent for
coaching the #1 total offense in the Big Ten - sure NU has issues scoring,
but if you've watched the offense progress from its first game of 2006 until
now it has improved by leaps and bounds - and a lot of that reflects on
McGee (who is still in just his second year as a coordinator).  I am hardly
an apologist for the NU coaching staff, but at least give them a little
credit for their successes and don't start giving the 'Cats no chance right
now.

I fully expect the game this week to be a close, hard-fought battle.  The
key to the game is slowing down Illinois' rushing attack, and NU has shown
the ability to stop teams from running the ball well - NU held Hart in check
for the most part and shut down most of Iowa's running game.  Offensively,
NU still has to be able to get points on the board after it gets down the
field - NU failed to score on 3 red zone trips against Indiana, and that
won't cut it this week.
