The law of supply and demand will always prevail. If the tickets for a particular team are already selling out then prices for the general public simply can't be reduced. If the team or school were to lower the prices resellers would snap them up and resell at the going rate. Lowering the price would just transfer the profits from the team to a third party. A university could make tickets available to students or alums at reduced prices, but even then many of the tickets would be resold. My wife and I attended the 2005 homecoming game against Michigan. Michigan fans were seated in many of the season ticket holders seats.
