[NU Sports] great, just great

For a look at some on the list of the many prominent NON-sportswriting
(or sports broadcasting, etc.) Medill alumni - - you might check out the
roster of inductees in the Medill Hall of Achievement (left column at

That made me chuckle too, although the whole thing makes me wonder
whether Northwestern's sports reputation gets perpetuated by
sportswriters from NU, especially those who graduated pre-Barnett. As
in: few other people would know, or care, about the basketball
tournament thing if our Medill alums didn't keep bringing it up.
It also makes me wonder: are there any famous Medill graduates who
aren't sportswriters? I realized I've never heard of one. Is that
because sportswriters are more likely to be household names than other
journalists (especially if one is interested in sports), or because
college affiliation becomes slightly more relevant when one might cover
college sports, or is it just because we basically only produce
sportswriters? (I'm kidding about that last one, I hope.) Things to
ponder on a slow Friday...
