I wanted to clarify that I took Carmody's "we're far
away but not that far away" to be referring to the
program as a whole, not a reference to the Michigan
State loss. Obviously, the latter was a very close
game. 

I can't see how anybody can look at NU hoops,
big-picture, and not see that comment as delusional.
"Not far away" would mean being a 18-12 team left out
of the NCAAs by one or two spots that has a nice run
in the NIT, not a team that finishes 2-14 in the
league and ends the season with just one decent win
(DePaul). Far away, we are. Not far away, we are not.

And, please, spare me the "things are looking up"
posts. I have read the same posts for years after the
latest 13-17 season, how this kid coming in will make
a difference, how this assistant coach will recruit
better, how more experience will help, if only this
kid didn't get hurt, etc, etc, etc. And the results
never vary.

That said, I still say keep Carmody. We won't do any
better. And maybe next year IS the year all you
optimists say will be coming. Maybe.
