I agree - I never said what we were doing was wrong.
You play the game by the rules set up, and with the
"quality win" gone out of the BCS formula, no RPI and
no real reward, there's absolutely no incentive for a
Big Ten team to schedule a challenging n-c slate.
Certainly not teams that often need those n-c wins to
reach the bowl eligibility level, like NU.
Penn State doesn't really need that extra cupcake ...
but there's no incentive for them to reach out either
when they can get 7 or 8 home games and all that $$$
every year.
In USC's case, the ND series is one they can't get out
of, and the other challenging scheduling may come from
the lack of respect the Pac 10 is given. Granted, it
is earning more respect and deserves more respect (the
Oregon and Arizona schools are rising and Cal and UCLA
are BCS contenders this year as well) ... but their
wins out of league get them more notice nationally
than those poorly televised Pac 10 games.
I was merely pointing out the laughability of anything
the governing board says on college football - whether
it's how a 12th game will increase n-c rivalry games,
the extra BCS bowl benefits mid-majors or how a
playoff will take away from class time, while Tuesday
night games will not.:)
So as an NU fan, I understand how it helps us. But as
a fan of good football, I share those 12th game blues.
GO CATS!!!
