Coaching is an extremely stressful job and because they are public
persons there are very few places they can "blow off steam". Drinking
is something you can do in private and if it comes out you are not
crucified. Now DUI/DWI turns something that is legal/recreational
into something that is against the law.

I don't think the NCAA needs to investigate this as it is a minor
problem compared to student-athlete/administration academic fraud IMHO.

With binge drinking a problem at colleges nationally, and with driving
under the influence being a centerpiece of public service
announcements nationwide, I would anticipate that Northwestern would
go very tough on this...

April 1995 - Gary Moeller resigns as Michigan football coach after a
disorderly conduct arrest at a restaurant

January 2001 - Kevin Willard, Louisville basketball assistant gets a
DUI - later, his offer to coach at Delaware is withdrawn over the DUI.

May 2003 - Larry Eustachy resigned as Iowa State coach after drunken
pictures are released (no DUI)

May 2003 - Mike Price fired as Alabama coach after topless bar
revelations (no DUI)

June 2004 - Bob Huggins fired by Cincinnati after a DUI

November 2005 - Frank Solich (Ohio U) DUI - no firing/resignation

November 2005 - Jim Harbaugh (University of San Diego) DUI - no
firing/resignation

February 2006 - Eddie Sutton (Oklahoma St) DUI - resigns for 'medical
reasons'

January 2007 - George Welsh (ex-Virginia football) DUI

It's a serious problem in society, and it would appear to be a serious
problem in the NCAA coaching ranks. Has anyone heard of the NCAA
looking into it more deeply ?
