[NU Sports] Is the Big Ten overrated?

I'm afraid my buddy Jim has spent a little too much time in the California
sun.
I'm not sure that Carroll would have been as successful blitzing OSU as he
was Michigan. SC won that game pretty much in the first half by abusing the
Michigan soph CB Morgan Trent. OSU plays mostly zone and didn't give up
very many big plays all year. Even given that lead in the first half, I
think that OSU with a healthy Ginn would have won the shoot out in the
second half.
As far a Cal beating Michigan, I don't think Tedford would have matched up
against Carr nearly as well as Carroll did. Carr would have followed
Carroll's defensive game plan with fairly similar results. It probably
would have been a close game determined by defensive turn overs and some big
plays. It would have come down to whether Cal could have gained the same
advantage through the air that USC did while at the same time holding off
the Michigan ground game. I don't think so.

At least as to the top two of the conference (and only the top two), I'd
definitely add the Pac-10. Had they played, SC would have defeated Ohio
State and Cal would have easily beaten Michigan. -- Jim
