[NU Sports] Future of NU basketball

If you are comparing him to Amaker then you are comparing him to a coach
who is very likely to be looking for a job in the spring if his team
doesn't make the tournament after what has been a rather lackluster
tenure so far. I, for one, am rather happy that for whatever reason, we
didn't hire Amaker. His team's underachieve worse than Carmody's and,
by his own admission, he is unable to recruit the caliber of student
that attends NU.
I am no more pleased about the Cats performance this year than anyone
else. I expected more in the Big 10 than we have seen but I probably
shouldn't have given the warning signs from the win over Wheaton and
loss to Cornell. In any event, I'm not ready to throw in the towel on
Carmody. As noted, the Princeton offense can be exciting to watch with
the right players. I think he can recruit if he can sustain a
breakthrough into Chicago that appears to have begun in the last couple
of classes. I think the addition of Tavaras to the staff will begin to
pay dividends in the next couple of recruiting classes. I may be
looking at this with purple glasses but I'm just not quite ready to give
it up.
