[NU Sports] Michigan game..

We were talking about Craig and Vinny not Doyle and Vinny.
I realize there is a lack of depth, but Craig is your major scoring
threat and he was so winded he could not get an open look and when we
had one he did not have the energy to shoot.
With Craig out you have to slow it down further and play better
defense, but he has to come out otherwise he becomes useless on
offense.
Vinny probably had his best first half of the season, but was AWOL in
the 2nd. If Vinny is scoring he is better than Tolic, but if he is not
(2nd half) why not bring in Tolic to spell Vinny.
If you can't substitute at least use the timeouts for breathers. Our
timeouts are useless if we are behind as we are a poor comeback team
and if we are ahead the only use is if we can't inbound the ball.
Given that use them as a rest period.

I respectfully disagree with both of you. Carmody has never done a
good
job substituting. He always seems to use only 7 or 8 players and by
the
end of the year the starters are worn out from playing all the minutes.
He seldom has used freshmen for meaningful minutes. This year is
different. He uses 9 players and substitutes much more liberally than
in past years. He also plays three freshmen for a substantial part of
the game. We do have a bench. It is just not as talented as it needs
to be and it is very young.
It is true that he played both Scott and Doyle for most of the game.
Neither player has a good sub who can do the things the starters can at
those positions. We actually have a much deeper bench than in previous
years. The trouble is that there are too few power players on the
team.
That is where the talent is lacking on this team.

Because there is no talent on the bench. Northwestern has never had a
deep
bench.
