[NU Sports] NU bowl stuff plus signing day

I think the Rose Bowl was a case of game being played on the opponents home field (or very close) where we actually had more people at the game than they did. You also need to consider that USC has played probably 60 games in the Rose Bowl (30+ Rose Bowl games and I am guessing 30+ USC v. UCLA games).

The reverse of this is hosting Wisconsin, Michigan, or OSU at Ryan field and having them have more fans there than we do.

Not sure if this answers the "away" game question or not.

Just one comment:

Was the Rose Bowl in 96 an "away" game for us? I was just reminiscing about this the other day. By my reckoning, the 1996 Rose Bowl was the largest gathering of NU football fans in history. I recall that the stadium was more than half purple. The entire city of Los Angeles was apparently giddy about Northwestern in the Rose Bowl, from purple de-icing fluid at LAX to Charlton Heston parting the purple sea.

Is this an inaccurate recollection?
