Actually, they no longer get $17 million when they get in a BCS game,   
Under the new arrangement which went into effect this year, ND gets $4.5 
million in years it plays in a BCS game, or shows up like this year, and 
a guaranteed $1 million ( consider it revenue sharing for not being in a 
conference) for years in which it doesn't make a game.

I haven't yet really figured out why the Big East has accepted the 
reduced deal ND gave them of three games each year in return for 
continued access to the Big East bowls.  The Big East should have said 
all in or get out altogether and find somewhere else for your Olympic 
sports.
