As a FBC member I know Bienen is a big basketball person. It is often
mentioned how he played pick-up games with and against Carmody at
Princeton. If anything football is theoretically getting the short-
shrift from this presidency. Note: I said theoretically.
We have mutliple problems many of which are chicken-egg situation:
* Low fan turnout for all sports. Football games vs. premier
opponents don't produce big overwhelmly partisan crowds and if the
opponent is not premier the stands are half-empty. This hurts
recruiting as recruits(basketball, football, etc.) see the empty
stands or the maize-blue/scarlet-gray/red-white of the opposing fans.
* Lack of winning tradition.
Resolve fan turnout and/or winning tradition and recruiting would
improve in basketball and football.
OR
Improve recruiting and that would resolve the fan support and/or
winning tradition.
I don't mind seeing opposing fans on the east side of Dyche.
Sacrilege? No. As a fan I love the friendly confrontational
atmosphere that makes a stadium electric. Nothing is worse than
Michigan stadium where there are 111K bored/boring fans. Note: I
hate to see opposing fans on the West side of the stadium.
As for basketball I have already moved on to football. We will be at
the FBC reception and game on Saturday, but harping about the
basketball woes only makes me depressed.

IMO, the root of our problem is a 60 year or so background of
administrations that dont have sufficient interest in basketball.
They have not and will not provide the things a good program needs,
like better facilities and the funds to let a good coach hire top
assistants and keep them.
