[NU Sports] BB Coaching Change? (fwd)

I agree with the post. I do think the trustees have to show they care
about basketball. Yet, I would not place Bill Carmody in the same light
as Tex Winter and Bill Foster. Tex Winter came to NU after being a big
time Big Eight and Pac-10 coach. Bill Foster came here after being a big
time ACC coach.

But Bill Carmody came here after being a big time Ivy League coach. And,
I'm sorry, but being a big time Ivy League coach does not translate to
being a big time Big Ten coach. Let's assume that Carmody has some
Chicago contacts and that he has done all he can do to try and get some
big-time players. Well, he hasn't gotten them, and I don't believe he
will ever get them because of our style of play. What decent recruit, in
his right mind, would want to play boring, slow-down basketball? After
all these many years, I think it's safe to say: no one.

I have XM radio which carries Big Ten games. Just within the last week,
I heard parts of our games at Iowa and at Illinois, and I heard them on
the Hawkeyes' and Illini's radio networks. You should hear them talk
about NU. Sure, they talk about how disciplined we are and how tough it
is to play against us. But they also go on and on about how boring we
are to watch. You don't think high school players hear that? You don't
think high school players think the same thing?

I guess my bottom line would be: trustees, show you care about
basketball. Improve our facilities, assist our coaches by giving them
what they need, and do something about eliminating boring basketball so
that recruits will be interested in our school

Our administrations just don’t want to provide the $ for top notch facilities, competitive wages for assistants, and recruiting. Over the years, our trustees consistently refuse to provide our coaches the tools they need to compete. Their interest has been and is more on football and other sports. Since the 40s (?), for Northwestern, basketball has been on the back burner.
