We get occasional mailing about joining the NU club of Chicago. I truly don't understand what they do other than weekday social events in the city which for suburbanites are almost impossible to attend.
We are NGN and FBC members. We donate to multiple club sports, our school(Tech), and an occasional other donation so we are active($) alumni, but the club and the alumni association has no relevance to us.
I thought it was only a Chicago thing i.e. if you lived in Miami you used the club to connect with fellow alums to watch NU football. For us we go sit with 5,000 "non-con attendance ;-(" of our closests friends at Dyche.

OK, time for my periodic rant about our alumni assn, the NAA is the worst alumni assn at a major University (apologies to Allen Wolfson and other listers who work to promote the NAA). My ex-wife was director of Tulane's AA for 6 years so I know the business. Tulane was a lot like NU notwithstanding the difference in latitude and attitude. Most AAs support their alumni clubs with staff, cash and events, many tied to sports. Not NU. NU underfunds the NAA because unlike any other U I know does not use the Alumni Assn to raise money, dumb and dumber. Maybe NU thinks that the Chicago corporate community will fork over a billion $ every now and then so Alumni loyalty is not important, I don't know and will never understand it although I have asked those who should have answers.
