In reality the only people who should pay $50 are the visiting fans. Every Northwestern fan has the opportunity to buy much discounted season tickets or a ticket pack. They even haven young alumni packages for those just graduated.
If Ohio State or Michigan tickets have a face value of $50 we should charge exactly that when they come a visiting. Don't make it cheaper to go to an away game than a home game. Now when the Ill-whine-I or a non-con foe come a calling and draws 7 visiting fans by all means discount the tickets as it is more important to fill the stadium.
This is not an uncommon thing as I have seen both the Cubs and Cardinals do it and I am sure one can easily find other examples.
It is sad to say that alumni are often not the best die-hard/fanatical fans. I know many of the most diehard Mee-chigan fans have no connection to the school other than being born in the state. We don't have too many of those "born Northwestern fans".
I can't wait for us to hire an AD. First I am going to warmly welcome him/her to Northwestern and then I am going to immediately ask them to do something about football traffic control ;-)

Anyways we can talk this to death, but the
$50 single game price tag was a huge obstacle for all of them to go to
games.
