[NU Sports] AD Replacements

Congratulations to Murph for getting one of the premier jobs in sports if
that is what happens. No hard feelings here - he has done a whale of a job
in a tough position and he is being properly recognized for it by obtaining
a top job at the head of an organization in the premier professional sports
league in the world. What more can a sports administrator want?

As for Carmody, I have long been a big supporter but I'm ready to throw in
the towel. It's not just the losses this season, as without Coble they are
to be expected, but the manner in which the Cats are losing and the total
lack of progress we are seeing. It isn't getting any better and there are
no prospects that it will. Recruiting is awful despite some inroads into
the Public League. We need to start over and a new AD will likely come to
the same conclusion rather quickly I think.

Mark

The Colby decision (in fact, any decision involving a football assistant)

should be made by PF, and should not involve the AD (except to advise and
keep

posted). I cannot see any reason why Greg Colby should be employed by the

University next year.

As for Carmody, a decision to let him go would be based (it seems) on about

5 factors:

- Bad Big Ten record

- Bad non-conference performance

- No NCAA appearances

- Weak recruiting (consistent weak recruiting)

- Poor fundamentals (the shocking inability of his players to shoot, make

free throws, rebound, or not commit turnovers)

Which of these 5 factors would a new AD not be aware of (or not able to

discover rather easily) ? Other than nice qualities of Mr Carmody's
personality,

what would any new AD require a year's observation to determine ?
