[NU Sports] Summer Scrimmage

We attended the summer scrimmage, but had to leave at 4pm to have dinner with a fellow NU alumnus.

Bacher looked pretty crisp, but was helped on the first series, by outstanding YAC from Rasheed Ward.  We were yelling for offensive face mask on Ward harkening back to the days Damien got called for one or two.  The only 2 offensive face mask calls I have ever seen called against the guy with the ball.

Kafka had a nice 50+ yard run, but his passing was not as sharp.

Peterman and Ward had catches, but I did not see Brewer or Lane have anything thrown to them.  Ross did have a nice punt block.  Kind of shocking as you figure your small speedy guys are the punt blockers.

The run defense was pretty good, but the pass defense had a lot of holes including a mugging(pass interference).  The only run defense laps was the Kafka run and he beat them around the corner.  I think it was the Michigan post that talked about us being stout up the middle, but weak/slow on the sides.

Special teams was a mixed bag.  Amado MISSED an extra point -- ouch and missed a 45yd field goal and we had a punt blocked.  The coverage looked pretty good and the punt block was nice.  Kind of a split personality -- do you root for offense or defense.

We missed Nick Roach's brother patrolling the sidelines trying to encourage the crowd and making witty remarks.

Other notes:  I hope GB consulted on special teams rather than giving foo-foo rah-rah speeches.  We are beyond the 0-11 days and need tactical help rather than "we're the underdog and no one gives us any credit..."
