[NU Sports] ABC regional games

I'd be willing to bet that Steve's understanding is better educated than
mine on this point. I was writing based on a recollection of a post on a
message board somewhere by someone who seemed to have done some pretty
extensive research on the issue but I haven't researched it myself. Hence,
my disclaimer at the end. Maybe it's that we won't be able to get any Big
Ten games on GamePlan that you won't get on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU/BTN but
there might be Big Ten games on BTN that you can't get on GamePlan. As a
further disclaimer, I'm just speculating again. -Joe

My understanding is a little different. Gameplan still includes the Big Ten
conference in its advertising. Additionally, its FAQ (on DirecTV's website)
states that Gameplan consists of two major components: the regionalized ABC
games (like OSU/Michigan) showing on ABC in some parts of the country and
Gameplan in the other areas, and the regional, syndicated games (like
NU/Illinois) that aren't on ABC, but were ESPN+ games that would show up
sometimes on Gameplan as well as being carried over the air by local
broadcasters.

So, it's the second group of games - the former ESPN+ games - that won't be
around on Gameplan anymore. If ABC has the rights to a game - which they
will for OSU/Michigan, for example - it will be on ABC for much of the
country and Gameplan everywhere else.

Probably those regionalized ABC games are the only Big Ten HOME games that
will be on gameplan this year.
