That's what I had heard last week--that he probably would walk on at
Illinois.  The reason that came to my attention is that he was rumored to be
looking at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota (the top DII team in
the country--their DII-record 57-game winning streak was snapped in a
two-point loss in the championship game this year and the DII player of the
year last year was a Warrior).  The Winona State coach's name had been
brought up by some for the U of M vacancy eventually filled by Tubby Smith.

Anyway, I hadn't heard NU mentioned until this morning.  According to the
Times article, he's looking hard at Valpo and Davidson (scholarship) and
also at other schools including NU, Illinois, and PSU (as a walk-on).  He'd
definitely get to play at NU and PSU more than at Illinois.  If he walked on
at NU, it would be fantastic!  We wouldn't have to use up a scholarship, and
I think having his dad in the stands and around the program in an NU shirt
or hat would be unbelievable for recruiting.  Plus, Jeffrey would get a
great education.  Unless he gets a lot better in a hurry the NBA isn't
likely, so he'd be better off with a degree from NU than from anywhere else
he's looking.
