Interesting point - and since Mr. Ryan is chair of the
Chicago bid, I'm sure we could get included in some of
the plans (not to mention the beautiful, scenic
lakeshore Evanston offers). I'm not sure we'd have
much space for new venues, but maybe upgrading some
existing ones or playing preliminary rounds of some
events on our fields?
Personally, I think aside from transportation
nightmares with the CTA and freeway construction ...
Chicago would be a terrific host. It's truly one of
the great cities of the world and the "true American
city," the midwestern hospitality would be evident and
welcome the hosting opportunity. Plus the gorgeous
lakeshore in summer is darn near perfect ... it might
not be the Grecian shore of Athens or Sydney Harbour,
but it would certainly be better than Atlanta.:)
And given that Europe (London) hosts in 2012,
Chicago's probably the frontrunner at this point with
the US bid behind it - Tokyo is probably the chief
competitor, though Asia will be a host in 2008.
Could be interesting to see the Olympics in Evanston!
GO CATS!!!
