As a Wisconsin friend of mine says, "We all know what
the "L" in John L. Smith stands for."

ND is a quality team, but, now, really; would that
last botched kickoff return where the MSU kid first
came out six yards deep (dumb) and then TOOK A KNEE in
play (words fail me) happen against anybody else
(well, maybe, knowing how poor our special teams are)?
ND gets plays like this in its favor -- how about that
last pinball pickoff, too -- all the time. Barf. This
is why I will never listen to ND whining about refs;
bad refing balances out their incredible luck.

But MSU blew this one with its playcalling and lack of
sustained emotion and that brain freeze on the kickoff
return. Typical of Smith -- how many game have his
teams had won, it seemed, against top foes and then
they gag (2005 OSU, for one huge one).

ps - anybody see Iowa-Illinois? Was ILlinois that good
to stay within 24-7 or was Iowa just out of it?
