[NU Sports] on non-league skeds

as long as bowl bids are based on 6-win seasons, and one can count a 1-AA win every season, our non-conference schedule has to consist of:
- a lousy Div 1-AA team, always at home (Eastern Illinois and Western Illinois could work)
- a lousy Div 1 BCS conference team (think Duke or Temple) home-and-home
- 2 lousy Div 1 non-BCS schools (think Eastern Michigan and maybe UNLV) in 2 home-1 away contracts, such that we always end up with at least 3 non-conference home games, to go with 4 conference home games
Then, hopefully you can win at least 2 conference games and get bowl-eligible.
Michigan or Ohio State can afford to play a 'National' game. Until we can consistently win 5 or 6 conference games a year, we have to have 4 patsies on the schedule - and beat them every year.
As for when the games are played, our home games should be Saturdays at 1 (11 for the televised conference games).
Road games, play them whenever, as long as it doesn't unduly impact classroom time.

So I hear -- via WGN -- that Fitz is thrilled about
playing on FRIDAY night for a national audience.
I wish he'd said this:
"No, I am not happy with a night game at an obscure
university in a conference that doesn't matter. As far
as it is in my power to influence the selection of
non-league games, we will play BCS conference
opponents in home-and-home series or the occasional,
appropriate, non-BCS foe, such as Army and Navy, in
similiar situations. And, again as far as I have a
say, we will never play a game not on Saturday
again."
Now I'd be excited about that!

"We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that
accusation is not proof, and that conviction depends upon evidence and due
process of law.
"We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an
age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember
that we are not descended from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to
speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were for the moment unpopular."
