When did being a Cubs fan get gentrified?
I remember attending games in the 60's when there were only 5000 or so
on hand, and when rather than singing 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame' the
primary fan activity was shouting 'whooo' in a rising and falling tone
as a ball that was fouled back went up and down the net between the
box seats and the press boxes.
Back then you could sit almost anywhere in the stands, because 18,000
non-reserved seats went on sale the morning of each game.
Heck, you could even sneak down into the box seats when the Andy Frain
ushers weren't looking, and sometimes when they were.
As George C. Scott said in "Patton", 'The world grew up. Hell of a shame!'
