No standings yet, but we have a whopper of a week in
the college football universe this weekend. The annual
Lloyd Carr chokefest (aka Michigan-Notre Dame) ... the
Tiger tussle in the SEC, that other SEC rivalry in
Rocky Top, two intriguing Pac 10/Big XII matchups and
an usedtabe Big Least battle in the Pizza Hut, er
Papa's Place?
Considering that the Texas Napoleon Complex matchup
(TCU/TTech), Maryland-WVU (a rare tough game for the
'Neers) and Bowden Bowl whatever-it's-on-now didn't
even make the cut of games, you KNOW it's gonna be a
busy Saturday for the remote!:)
Picks due by kickoff Saturday!

SjT PICKS
=========
* SYRACUSE 20, Illinois 10
C: A week ago, I pick differently, but the Illini
looked ugly while the Cuse deserved the win vs. Iowa.
* INDIANA 24, Southern Illinois 17
C: This could be an upset alert, but I'll take the
Hoosiers to squeak by at home.
* IOWA 40, Iowa State 13
C: The Syracuse game was Ferentz' annual September
swoon - now that it's out of their system, the Hog
eyes roll over their pesky rivals.
* MICHIGAN 21, Notre Dame 17
C: I'm not as confident in this pick as I once was,
but I still think Michigan's the better team and I'm
hoping Lloyd Carr bumps his head and realizes he needs
TDs and not safe FGs to win in South Bend.
* MICHIGAN STATE 38, Pittsburgh 20
C: The Spartans may be looking ahead to the Irish, but
they still have enough to beat a Big Least team.
* MINNESOTA 63, Temple 7
C: A cure for the Cal loss blues? The Owls at home.
Big day running. BIIIIIIIGGG day running.
* OHIO STATE 28, Cincinnati 10
C: The Bucks roll at home after that huge win at
Texas. But beware the looming trip to Iowa City.
* PENN STATE 34, Youngstown State 17
C: The Lions rebound from the collapse in South Bend
with a big win at home.
* PURDUE 42, Ball State 24
C: The Boilermaker Invitational basketball tourney,
er, football prelims? ... whatever, continues and
Purdue lucked out last week but wins more comfortably
this week.
* WISCONSIN 31, San Diego State 13
C: Badgers quietly getting better for the Big Ten
slate.
* AUBURN 17, Louisiana State 16
C: Weird things always seem to happen this game
between Tigers ... LSU lets a lead slip away late in a
thriller.
* FLORIDA 27, Tennessee 20
C: Urban knows that beating the rivals keeps the
alumni happy and he beats the Vols again - this time
in Rocky Top, where AIR FORCE almost won last week!
* SOUTHERN CAL 45, Nebraska 7
C: The Trojans love the prime time stage and end this
talk of the Huskers being back with a big win by speed
and talent - put it on autopilot until the Notre Dame
game, Pete.
* OREGON 26, Oklahoma 21
C: Revenge is sweet for the Ducks from last year's
bowl. Plus, Autzen is tough and the Sooners are
struggling (the defense struggle is a surprise).
* MIAMI 26, Louisville 24
C: The Canes can't get a second loss this early -- the
Cards lead most of the game and are on the verge of
getting respect for the Big Least when a Cane comeback
spoils the party.
And off the board ...
* NORTHWESTERN 41, Eastern Michigan 21
C: Kafka cuts down on the mistakes and NU rebounds for
a win this week. Gotta win the gottawins!
Picks in by Saturday kickoff!
GO CATS!!!
