[NU Sports] Coach's Lunch

Coach Fitzgerald gave an excellent summation of tomorrow's opponent at the
NGN Lunch this afternoon.  He was joined by the four captains (elected by
their teammates after Camp Kenosha - Heinz, Herbert, Cobb and Roach).  The
players answered questions and  were, as usual, well up to the task which is
almost always a given with our terrific scholar-athletes.

 

Fitz-Quips:  

 

"No, we are not bringing back the black uniforms.  Northwestern's colors are
purple and white although I'll admit the black uniforms made me look
better."

 

"I don't know how many of you remember high school but Friday was the day we
all wore our school colors.  I look around the audience here and I don't see
more than a few purple shirts."

 

"We are starting some new traditions.  One will be asking our fans to line
up along Walker Way as the team gets of the bus."  

 

[Tomorrow morning the path outside the football offices will be named Walker
Way and fans are invited to join in a ceremony at 10:30]  

 

"We have two goals every game:  Play the best we can and win the game.  We
did the latter last week but not the former."

 

 

It's going to be an exciting season at Northwestern.  My head says we should
still expect a lot of growing pains but my heart thinks this team might just
feed off of their late coach this year and the tremendous honesty and
forthrightness that their new coach has exemplified so far.  We'll see how
they react when adversity strikes, as it surely will, but we might, just
might, be in for something very special Cats fans.
