I read an interesting article yesterday about Dr. John Najarian (see
http://www.surg.umn.edu/surgery/faculty/najarian_john_s/najarian_cv.html),
one of the world's most renowned transplant surgeons--perhaps the greatest
single pioneer of transplant surgery--who also was a star lineman for the
Cal Bears in their heyday. His son Pete held the Gophers' all-time tackle
record at 482 until Tyrone Carter broke it and set the current record in
1999. Najarian recounts playing for Pappy Waldorf in the late 1940s and
calls into question NU's victory in the 1949 Rose Bowl, saying he stripped
the ball from Art Murakowski before he crossed the goal line and was awarded
the game-winning touchdown. I have not seen the photo referred to in the
article.

There's a funny anecdote at the end of the piece too.
