- Michigan State appears to be beatable in getting by Idaho 27-17 in East Lansing. MSU, Purdue and Illinois might be the 3 'swing games' in our schedule. Idaho did outscore MSU 14-10 in the second half, had 17 first downs to the Spartans 21, and converted on 7 of 16 third sowns (MSU converted on 4 of 11).
- Colorado was stunned at home 19-10 by I-AA Montana State, starting the post-Barnett era on a very bad note.
- Thursday's game was one of the first I can recall where neither team had a punt return. There were 11 punts, and no returns. Have we had this one happen before ? (In 2004, we had none in the Minnesota game and they had one.)
- And the best news of all, Notre Dame is losing 7-0 to Georgia Tech. If this is truly the second best team in the nation, then the college game is pretty weak. Oh to see the useless Charlie Weis stumble in this one...oh, and Brady Quinn as well. By the way - can Brent Musburger be any more fawning toward the Golden Dome ? The dream, of course, would be to see them lose the first five (Tech, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue) and six of the first 7 (throw in UCLA in week 7)...
