When did the George Steinbrenner school of management take over in Evanston?

Or are many of you trying to take a page from the Redskins ownership, or even
the Marlins?

I know there are a few of you who seem to actually hate some of our coaches and
long for the days of Barnett and a few trusted assistants who actually had 2
good years. Get over it, those guys are not coming back to Evanston, even if
Fitz cleans house in December.

NU has only recently been able to attract the kind of defensive linemen that can
put pressure on a QB. Last year we had Barry Cofield and a bunch of frosh, and
fans were griping that there was no pass rush. The year before we had a one
armed Luis Castillo and Barry C, and a DE with both a bad ankle, and an
attitude.

Its an old reality in pass defense - you shut down the pass by getting a pass
rush, because good fast receivers will eventually get open.

Drew Stanton showed what an experienced QB can do, even if he doesn't have the 3
seconds to set up and throw. He went to the 3rd and 4th receivers on plays and
really picked on the one sub on the defense Chris Malleo, a hard hitting
linebacker who is usually 3rd behind Roach as the Will. Eddie Simpson, who
normally is the pass coverage guy on the weak side is also injured.

The 3-4 defense, which is actually a 6-2 when the linebackers come from the
corners is usually good at getting that pressure on the QB. Until Roach got
hurt, it sure looked like it was working.

Now, about firing everyone.

Unless NU is able to attract a defensive guru, changing the entire defensive
staff will only give us a very bad defense as the kids adjust to an entirely new
way of playing.

And Mike's comment about undercutting a head coach is dead on. 

Of course some of you seem to have a death wish - lets go out and find another
Gary Barnett, who will ignore the gambling and other problems, have a good year
and take the next job that comes along.

I'd rather do it one play at a time, one game at a time, follow the plan...
