[NU Sports] We Have A QB!!!!

It has NOT been 5 years of fire/don't fire Colby and Brown

It has been a consistent 5-year call to get both of them as far away from Evanston as possible

Many on this list questioned Colby's credentials when he got here (i.e. the stellar Kent defense)

Many also have questioned JB (constantly, consistently and correctly) since his horrific days as co-DC

So nobody should pretend that calls to get rid of Colby and Brown are hot-and-cold things that change by week

The drumbeat on this list to fire Colby has been a constant throughout his sorry tenure

In fact, I cannot recall one game in which anyone was so impressed by Colby that they said - 'Let's ofer that man an extension ! So OSU doesn't steal him away !'

Are we to understand that after 4 years of Colby (and 13 years of Brown), that both men have suddenly realized that speed is good, and that they're gonna get to work on that right away, and everything will be sunshine and rainbows ?

So we should ignore 17 combined years of incompetence, because, hey - they're recruiting SPEED, now !

Since Fitz is the special teams coach....

And I think we'd be short sighted to blow out Washington, Colby and Bates given
the state of the kids coming up.

If you actually look at what happened, MSU exploited Nick Roach's early
departure by throwing to the spot where Malleo, who was the only backup there
[Simpson is hurt], putting a WR up on a LB. I don't care how good you are as a
LB coach, you can't produce a Nick Roach out of the air - it takes 5 years.
Malleo's been a LB for 1.

MSU's O-line, which had been shakey all game suddenly decided they were going to
block. Once again, 3 D-Line, 4 D-Line, hell, we could have rushed 6 D-Linemen.
They were going to give Stanton the 2 or 3 seconds he needed to make the play in
the 2nd half.

NU has been on a mission over the past 2 years to recruit speed. The kind of
speed that it takes to play in the Big 10. My point Thursday in the Scout.com
article was that all of our guys coming in are as fast, if not faster than the
starters now, and maybe as fast as some of the MSU guys who were out there
breaking up passes at the end of the game.

The O-Line, which looked decent, suddenly lost their middle, the glue that was
holding it together, and we saw errant snaps, after Trevor got hurt.

Some will say these are excuses. As a coach, they're things we need to work on.

Anyway, I'm tired of 5 years of fire this coach or fire that coach based on how
the team plays on a given Saturday. I'm always amazed at how great an assistant
can be when the team is winning, then the next week he's a dunce because....
