It's also true that at the time McGee was promoted to OC, we had an offensive mastermind as a head coach. Accordingly, we didn't need as much talent at OC. Times have changed, and we lost much of our offensive coaching talent when Randy Walker died.

I think this leaves Fitgerald in a tough position. He probably needs to replace McGee with someone with more experience, but it would probably be a diffifult move for him to make. We'll have to wait and see, but hopefully there will be support from the administration to help hire a more talented and experienced OC if that's what Fitz decides to do.

Before Jeff Tedford arrived in 2002 and brought winning seasons, Cal had managed only 4 winning seasons since 1980 (Joe Kapp 7-4 '82, Bruce Snyder 7-4-1 '90, 10-2 '91, Keith Gilbertson 9-4 '93).

>Let's not start blaming our Administration. How can it only be money when the OC's went to Oklahoma and Cal, two Top-25 programs? Let's be realistic, those are high-profile Asst. Coaching Positions, much higher in profile than NU, like it or not, and much more of a launching pad to a HC Position.
