If Fitz is truly in over his head and we see two or three very poor seasons
without any improvement, then I think the University will look for an
alternative. A five-year honeymoon is, I think, not in the cards. The problem is
that repeated bad performances adversely affects everything from stadium
attendance and alumni support to recruitment, a spiral outcome we saw in the 80s
and do not want to repeat.
Avoiding that unpleasant prospect, however, will require Fitz's leadership
in staff management and restructuring starting after this season. The likely
2-10 or 3-9 record will scream for change. The status quo will not stand.
What Fitz does with his coaching roster could be the most important factor
governing his own future at Northwestern.

Not reasonable, I am not a football coach, but am a kgsm and cas nu guy who
turned around 3 companies and retired at 56. He needs at least 2 years to
get
his bearings, his coaching team, and philosophy together. Give him a break
due to the difficult circumstances he inherited. I hate losing as much as
anybody, but cut some slack here.
