Sherrick McManis
We've all seen what he can do on kickoffs, but I think he's well on his
way to becoming a monster player on defense and kick coverage. NU had 3
corners on the field most of the game, so McManis got a lot of playing
time. And more often than not, he had his guy covered like a glove.
Granted, Cole was probably assigned to the best receiver most of the
time, and I believe McManis did give up the touchdown pass in the
corner of the endzone, but that was after a stumble, and another case
of no pressure on the QB.
He looks to have all the tools, and I wouldn't be surprised if he
passes up Battle as the #2 corner before the year is out.
And on punt and kick coverages, he was everywhere. A lot of guys can be
the first one to reach (and then miss) the punt returner. McManis is
the first guy there, and actually tackles them.
I don't think I've been as excited about an NU defensive player since
Hudaifa Ismaeli started making his presence felt.
