Purdue said, "Take this game, Northwestern. We don't want it. We'll miss field goals, fumble, muff punts, throw interceptions right into your defenders' hands, anything you want. It's yours for the taking." We didn't want it.
The offensive line, reputed by some to among the best in the Big 10 pre-season, remains a sieve. Desmond Taylor played without doubt the worst game I've ever seen from an offensive lineman. He looked utterly lost, and the coaching staff made no adjustments to assist him. Andrew Brewer was no better. He simply cannot find a receiver. The coaching seems lost in the fog, too. Nothing but soft corner coverage, and it rarely works. One quarterback run after another in an offense that has nothing else going for it. The one deep pass was a honey, but it was one and done. Meanwhile. while we were on defense, it was like experiencing Chinese water torture. Dink pass - first down. Dink pass - first down, etc. ad infinitum. The defensive line mounted nothing resembling a pass rush. I had no idea it would be this bad. Worse, it doesn't appear to be improving in the least.
Sigh.
