Well some of us attempted to go back on campus in order to watch (it was
announced on Friday that ESPN360 would be available on the NU campus), but
indeed it was not available. From the sounds of it there was a goof on NU's
end (they gave ESPN the wrong range of IP addresses), so I can't say
anything regarding ESPN360's handling of the game except for the disgust at
their revenue strategy.
Also note that you can get GamePlan online, which I have personally never
done. If anyone has seen GamePlan games online I would like to know how
that compares with the regular TV or ESPN360, especially since you can view
archived games for the week that you paid for, which is nice since you can't
record easily from the internet.
Since ESPN360 is obviously does not have any technological limitations
preventing it from reaching a wider audience I would prefer to see it go to
a purely PPV model if they insist on charging for live content. I would
have been more than willing to pay $10 to view the game, as would many
others. Hopefully they adjust their distribution strategy, especially if
more games will be included on this in coming seasons. We'll have to see
what the Big Ten plans to do once they launch their own network - if they
will only televise games on TV or will also use the internet.
