FW: [NU Sports] Congratulations!

Thanks to Neil for the nice note. I am also proud to count Neil among
one of my best friends. You should see the two of us at the back of the
synagogue, wondering whether to check Wildcat scores or once again pay
attention to what's going on around us; I am sure we are making our
wives and the rabbi proud. (FYI Neil's oldest son, Max, was just Bar
Mitzvah'd and did an outstanding job.)  At any rate ...
 Thanks to Roy as well for the link. The Charger game is actually not my
first story. I've been at the website for about a month. Those of you
who (understandably) have not been dedicated readers missed, for
instance, a lengthy piece on the 1966 Notre Dame-Michigan State 10-10
classic tie; a very interesting event to recount. If any of you have
heard about Bears defensive back Ricky Manning Jr.'s recent court
appearance in LA, that story was mine, too. List favorite Jay Marriotti
referred to it in his Sunday column in the Sun-Times.
 I hope I can ask each of you to check the site out -- again, it's
www.nbcsports.com. It's still very much a work in progress but we have
lots of interesting stuff, with more to come as the NBA, etc., gets
going. And of course the Olympics; the next Summer Games are coming up
in 2008, in Beijing.
 A note or two about the game last night. I deliberately wore a
Northwestern sweatshirt into the locker rooms. Luis and I had a great
chat. Just didn't find a suitable place for his comments in the story. I
regrettably did not run into Trai Essex on the Steeler side.
 A couple weeks ago, I ran into Barry Cofield in the Giants locker room.
There wasn't much time or inclination for much beyond pleasantries,
however. That was the week the Seahawks pasted the Giants.
