[NU Sports] Damn Yankees!

When did the New York Yankees start wearing purple? Did the Wildcats play a
football game last Saturday? (Some say no and that they may not for the
rest of the season.) As far as baseball playoffs go, GO TIGERS! They're
perenniel underdogs.

If the Yankees are the most storied baseball team in history, they are also
the most hated, and I'm on top of that list (along with the Dallas Cowboys
in football). Watching them lose is a joy. What unmitigated arrogance on
Frankensteinbrenner's part even to consider firing a manager who has a team
in the playoffs year after year, a manager who would be gobbled up at any
price by another team the moment he becomes free to negotiate. On the other
hand, I can't hate the Mets. I still vividly recall 1962 when they were so
eminently loveable and Casey sat in his rocking chair asking, "Can anybody
here play this game?" After this past season, though, I could learn. Next
year, the Phillies win the division. Remember that you read it here first.
