Sad news - I grew up a Michigan fan and still cheer
for the Maize and Blue in key games such as this
weekend or against the Golden Domers. I later
appreciated that he had ties to Evanston as well.:)
Michigan may have that aura of arrogance at times, but
they never seemed as outright hostile as dOSU and a
lot of that was Bo. He seemed to do things the right
way most of the time (yes, I know UM has that infamous
Kinesiology major, but at least they put on a facade
of academics:) ). And in 1995, I always got the
feeling that Big Blue was genuinely happy for us while
Buckeye fans were crying foul over the teams not
playing. I think Michign fans were stunned that 1995
afternoon in Ann Arbor when they wished us well after
the defeat and I'm sure most of them were sure
lightning wouldn't strike twice the following year in
Evanston, but I think they were happy for our Rose
Bowl run.
And Bo was one of those who didn't buy into the BCS BS
- the Rose Bowl is the Rose Bowl and in the absence of
a playoff, it doesn't get any bigger than the
Granddaddy of 'em all in Pasadena. Fitting, I guess,
that he passed on the eve of the biggest Big Game in
years.
I've had a feeling all week Michigan would win -- Carr
and company are focused (much like the post-Alamo
embarassment drive of 1997), have the better D and,
for once, better special teams too. OSU has home field
and the best player on the field in Smith, but UM's
offense isn't too shabby either. In a heck of a game,
I think Big Blue wins one for Bo tomorrow.
GO CATS!!!
