[NU Sports] Cofield

Blame Halas, Ditka, Butkus, Sayers, Payton, Perry, and the rest of the '85
team.

The Bears, good or bad, own Chicago.

Chicagoans (both resident and expat) may not be able to agree on baseball,
but we can all agree on football.

It is certainly possible if Fitz gets NU to the point where we're contending
for BT championship on a regular basis, that Chicago will embrace college
football too. It certainly has had flings with College hoops with Illinois
and before the DePaul.

But I doubt that anything will displace the way this city associates its
identity with the bears.

Maureen did the women's football clinic last year(2005) where he was one of
the "coaches". Under normal circumstances she said Cofield sounds more like
Barry White.

How can one cheer for the bears? The bears get 50%+ of all local newspaper
sports coverage and 90%+ of all sports radio coverage. I drove down to
Florida and it was refreshing to hear college talk from the stations in
Nashville, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Destin. In Chicago I can't listen to
sports radio, because they refuse to even talk about the rest of the NFL,
much less college football.

Sorry about the rant, but I yearn for a more national perspective from
Chicago's sports coverage.

Nice to hear Barry mention Northwestern during his self-introduction.

Don't know that I've ever heard him speak before, but in that short 10
second introduction he sounded very dangerous and angry. <G>

The commentators seem impressed with his maturity mentioning several times
that he was playing like a veteran rather than a rookie.

Also nice that the Bears continue to figure out how to win even when they
take the first half of the game off.

I saw Cofield make a nice TFL against the Bears last night, but then the
commentator incorrectly said he was drafted out of Texas (it wasn't Madden
who said it, and I can't remember who was doing the play-by-play).

I think I'm becoming some kind of sportscaster watchdog...
