[NU Sports] To Joe Theigs

That is a very good suggestion, Dennis, and I don't know why I didn't think
of it. Actually, given that family time is going to preclude viewing the
replay early this evening, I am going to follow your advice and record the
game when I get home from work. We have a dual DVR which we got when we
switched from cable to Dish about 9 months ago, and my spouse and I both
agree that the $10/month or so that we pay for the DVR function is among the
best-spent money with which we part. I'm normally a pretty frugal guy, but
DVR has, to use a cliché, changed the way we watch TV, and is well worth it
the cost. For those college football games that I want to see but don't
care about the commentary, I think it's great that you can jump essentially
from play-to-play and get through a whole game in just a little over an hour
while having caught all of the action. And, unlike with a VCR, we can watch
either of two recordings on either of two different TVs simultaneously (if,
for example, my wife wants to watch something other than the game) or watch
a previous recording while recording two other shows at the same time.
Finally, of course, the ability to pause or "rewind" live TV is simply
revolutionary. Maybe it's sad, but I now find myself getting frustrated
when I miss something on a non-DVR TV or the radio and don't have a pause or
"skip back" button!

BTW, I love the phrase "wifely interferences." I might steal it and use it
sometime. :)

-Joe

To avoid such wifely interferences while maintaining peace at home, think
DVR. I don't know how I ever watched TV without one, so I got two.
