11/7/81 - the loss that set the record for the longest losing streak in
Div. 1-A history, 61-14 vs. Michigan State at Dyche Stadium.  The
29-game streak, breaking the record held by kansas State and Virginia,
reached 34, before a 9/25/82 victory at Dyche over Northern Illinois,
31-6, behind a school record-tying four TDs from runningback Ricky
Edwards.

After both the record-setting win and the streak-ending defeat, down
went the goalposts.

BOTH head coaches of N'western during the streak, Rick Venturi and
Dennis Green, went on to become NFL head coaches.
