[NU Sports] Ross Lane on WGN post game

Apparently there was some "controversy" as Brewer remained the starter
against Wisconsin and Purdue despite the fact that Bacher was cleared to
practice by that point and was taking snaps in practice. There was a lot of
talk on the internet boards concerning this situation and many were
questioning why the coaches were sticking with Brewer despite his lack of
success in the passing game. In any case this may have been the coaches
protecting him because of the injury from which it took a while to recover.

What Lane was probably trying to convey was the fact that Bacher came back
from a lot of adversity in the off season as CJ had a medical condition over
the summer that kept him out of the weight room for the most part followed
up by his leg stress fracture during the preseason which kept him off of the
practice field until the end of September.

Fortunately it looks like Northwestern has found its quarterback as he's
made some great decisions running the offense over the past 3 games and
we've seen the spread attack we're used to come back. While there's room
for improvement, he still looks pretty solid considering he'll be starting
his 4th game ever this week, and there's a lot of positive potential for the
future.
