I concur with Brad that the 2001 loss vs. PSU was the most painful and had
the most consequence. We were 4-1 at that point, and it took 2 years until we
beat Indiana in OT to get back on track. During that funk, we were 5-19. In
2001, Kustok and DA2's many accomplishments were clouded under the avalanche
of points we gave up that season.
That's why yesterday's win was so crucial; I believe that it kept us out
of a downward spiral into next season, or worse, into 2008. McManis and
Simpson have been tremendous shots in the arm, and Brendan Smith has gotten better
as most of us figured he would. Our rusg defense excelled all day; good on
you Eric Washington.
We'll see if my formula is true. Illinois thought they had gotten over a
"hump" after beating MSU, and are winless since. For Illinois and NU, the
last game of the season presents a real opportunity to sell themselves that
progress has been made. For Zook, it's continuing the agonizing climb out of
the Ron Turner era; for NU it's a chance to put all of the coaching changes to
bed, and hit the ground running for 2007.

NU flag flying proud in York, PA. Trust the Plan! GO
CATS!!!
