Having frequently done the drive back from Iowa City, you always have plenty of good listening, what with the 1 1/2 hour postgame show, followed by the 3 1/2 hour call-in show on WHO. The game broadcast was bleak - Ed Podolak sounded devastated, everyone in Iowa is questioning their coaches, their coordinators, their talent, their heart.

The fans seem convinced that Ferenz' schemes are too easy, they seem convinced that their receivers are awful (and that their overall talent level is on a par with the rest of the middle of the Big Ten), they seem convinced that their recruiting is slowing down, they are asking if the Drew Tate era is done, and if new QB Jake Christensen should be starting.

The 3 1/2 hour show was one complaint after another. Jim Zabol (sp ?) made a very interesting point that in their last ten meetings, Northwestern holds a 6-4 edge over the Hawks - 4-1 at Evanston, 2-3 at Iowa City. The announcers seemed to think that we had jinxed them - in football and basketball.

It is a great pleasure to have a 6-4 edge over them in the last 10 meetings - especially since, prior to that, they had beaten us 21 straight times.

BIG WIN on many accounts. Congrats to all those Wildcats. But decisively
beating Iowa in their house (after last year's comeback, too)! Fantastic.

I ditto that we definitely have a head coach! I listen to Dave and Ted on
WGN while watching on TV. I find them much more entertaining that the TV
announcers!

A couple things that duo pointed out today.

1. The Wed after practice talk/speech by Fitz was excellent. Superb.
Fitz talked about knowing what it is like to win in Kinnick Stadium that
awesome feeling of winning. And wanting his players to have that same
feeling..

2. Iowa's home record the last 30 games is 27-3 !! Their last four
home losses are to NORTHWESTERN, Ohio State, Michigan and Iowa State. From
the Big Ten website and from http://iowa.rivals.com/schedule.asp?Team=IOWA,
I got the following:

JUST ADDED -- 2006 - Nov. 4th. Lost to NORTHWESTERN 7-21

2006 - Sept 30th. Lost to Ohio State 17-38

2005 - Oct. 22nd. Lost to Michigan 20-23 OT.

2004 and 2003 - undefeated at home

2002 - Sept. 14th - lost to Iowa State 31-36

>From the Hawkeye media guide - "A record of 30-3 over the last 4 seasons in
Kinnick Stadium, including 22 straight wins from 2002-2005"

For a few more details, recap:

Tyrell Sutton - 168 yards. And boy did Sutton look sharp catching those
balls coming out the backfield. CJ certainly wasn't lobbing the ball to him.

Ferentz put blame on self

ESPN College Scoreboard (TV) -- they talked about "total dominance" by
Northwestern in all areas.

Great Entertainment today! I feel good, too.

Go CATS! Roast a Buckeye!

PS. As my wife said, "The win couldn't have happened to[against] a better
team.. well except maybe Wisconsin." :-)
