Not quite. UNH beat Hofstra last week, although by the anemic score of
10-6. But their loss to UMass today was their third of the year, the
previous two being to Northeastern and James Madison, two and three
weeks ago, respectively.
Despite the two earlier losses, UNH was ranked #8 in I-AA going into
today's game, with UMass ranked #3, so it wasn't an upset, unless you
maybe take home field into account. JMU is also ranked higher now,
although they weren't when they played. (UNH was still #1 and JMU was
#12.) Interestingly, there are no undefeated teams in I-AA, but the
only losses in the top five are to I-A teams. UNH was the
highest-ranked I-AA team whose only losses were to other I-AA schools.
That may change after today.
