I have been reading this list for many years. And have enjoyed many posts,
including Bob Schooler's since back in the days of the AOL list. And I for
one would be disappointed if he picked up his keyboard and went home. I
attended many if not most of the games while a student and NU won no
football games! I remain an avid and intent Northwestern Sports fan, as do
my 5 sons.
As an evangelical Christian, I have strong reservations about this current
administration and the decisions it has made and the direction it is headed.
So I am in a unique place, I can be insulted by both the left and the right
(labels that I don't prefer). I must confess I found Mr. Bendat's original
comment offensive. I thought about writing something, but chose to overlook
his remark. The escalating responses have been less helpful than the
original statement, from my perspective. It seems to me this current debate
is not the kind of dialogue that I have long enjoyed on this list.
What makes this list so enjoyable is the diversity of the community. That is
what I loved about NU, and that is sincerely why I so enjoy this list. Let
us disagree without personal attack or ignorant and malicious remarks. Let
us disagree and discuss NU sports and social issues as they apply with
mutual respect and civil discourse. This is our community, let us treat it
as a community.
