[NU Sports] Soccer cats hazing -- blown out of proportion

With all due respect, John, taste is totally subjective. Our Constitutional
rights are not (well, they're not supposed to be, anyway). I don't find it
to be bad taste in the least to wear flip-flops to the White House. I think
the last two Presidents have both done a great job of disrespecting the
White House all on their own in a much more powerful manner than wearing
flip flops, don't'cha think?
In other words, I get the point. I just disagree with you.
Happens all the time,
Cheers!

You obviously miss the point. There are a lot of things that are legal but
in total bad taste.

Well, I for one took his post to mean he was hopeful we'd win another
Championship.
However, our Constitution gives each and everyone of us the right to
disrespect the White House all we want as long as it is within the
boundaries of the law, and last I heard, flip-flops were entirely legal in
America.
And further, if the flip-flops were meant as a subtle political
statement...well that is EXACTLY the kind of initiative and moxie I expect
out of NU grads!
Go CATS!!

There is something called bad taste. Whether one agrees or disagrees
with Bush doesn't justify showing disrespect to the White House. If you
want NU representatives to demonstrate bad taste then don't complain
about whatever other news comes out about NU.

Well, I for one would love to see *ALL* of the members of NU's women's
lacrosse team wear flip-flops THIS year when they visit the White House
after winning their 2nd straight national championship!

Following on the heels of the events at Duke, anything done by a large
private
institution will be waved about like the old proverbial "bloody shirt."
Trust me, every time a hazing incident comes up for the next 5 years, this
will
be mentioned. If you don't agree, check out all the stories about
flip-flops
that still pop up on Google about once a month.
NU has had the gambling scandal, and Rashidi, flip-flops and this bogus
hazing
issue - during that time, we've won how many Big 10 titles? Graduated how
many
students? Produced how many NFL players? It all doesn't count to the tear
it
down at all costs media types [including the ones at the Daily]
Grrrrr

Nope, I'm with you.
Although I'd be in the "no tolerance for hazing whatsoever"
camp, I don't get why this is such a big story.
Some folks did something stupid (hazing), then did something
equally as stupid, by posting photo evidence on the net. They
should be punished, but not vilified. And the university
certainly shouldn't take heat for it.
