[NU Sports] NU women's soccer hazing pictures

I am surprised something like this has not occurred at NU before now,
considering the amount of "hazing" that still occurs under the radar
and the number of pictures that are posted on the internet available
to anyone. Facebook.com along with other social networking and
picture posting websites and blogs are extremely popular, particularly
on campus (and are becoming even more popular as kids grow up using
these daily then move on to college where they have even more
freedom).

What is interesting is that events like these do occur rather often in
the fraternity/sorority realm and chapters routinely get disbanded or
reprimanded for these activities without news spreading too far off
campus. While I was at NU from 2000-2005 I think 5 or 6 fraternities
were either disbanded or severely reprimanded for various hazing or
illegal activities. Of course only once it reaches intercollegiate
sports (especially in light of the Duke situation) does it hit the
regional/national news.

This type of activity is definitely prevalent across campuses
nationwide and across different organizations - from athletics to the
Greek organizations to other student groups. Is society
over-protective trying to stop all "hazing"? Maybe. I know that it
is definitely a point of emphasis in Greek organizations to avoid
anything that could be construed as hazing to avoid lawsuits (I could
see some possibly coming out of this - probably towards both students
and members of the athletics department). Is this evidence of some
over-arching dysfunction at NU (as Mariotti would put it)? No - this
is a case of everyone doing it and NU happened to be caught at the
wrong time. What will happen? NU will probably crack down
excessively on hazing and thus all organizations at the school will be
punished, athletics, Greek and otherwise.
