Telander will probably comment at some point, but not yet - he seems to be becoming less relevant as his columns spread out in all sorts of directions.

Telander churns out 4 columns a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday). In the last 3 1/2 weeks, with the White Sox off to the hottest start in baseball, the Cubs struggling mightily and the Bulls making a first-round playoff exit, Telander has produced columns on the following subjects (all in a city with extremely parochial sports fans):

Sox 1
Cubs 1
Bulls playoffs 3
Other 9

The 'Other' category has included David Blaine, Hootie Johnson stepping down at Augusta, Mothers Day, Problems with USA Basketball, and how Dwyane Wade's grammatical slip is symptomatic of the problems of young African-American males in our Society. The last column especially caused a flurry of letters to the Sun-Times (wondering how anybody could criticize well-liked local product Wade).

When he can figure out a way to tie the story in to some greater issue of social relevance, I am sure he will be right there.

I'm Surprised that Telender hasn't jumped in to pontificate.
