My guess is that the signing of Baz was a signal to Weinke that the job
is a competition between Lefors and Weinke for number 2. From
everything I have heard, the Panthers really like Lefors and he and
Delhomme are supposed to be close. They are from the same hometown in
Louisiana and work out together all the time. Also, it may come down to
a matter of dollars. Why keep the amount of money that a 6 year pro
commands when he has as little game experience as Weinke, when you can
keep Lefors for so much less. I think it's a pretty decent situation
for BB all things considered.
